ART TAP episode 108

On tap this time are a pair of local singers/songwriters who are enlivening the area music scene. Justice Fuller, is a singer/songwriter who has performed throughout the Lafayette region and the Washington DC area, and who is previous Mike Lane Horizon songwriting award winner – and Lauren Grace is an 17-year-old Lafayette-area songwriter who won the Shirley Martin Scholarship in 2018 and has since gone on to become a well-recognized talent in the region.

It’s terrific to hear these young performers discuss their turns at creating original, personal music and perform it for local audiences. And they each sing an individual number and then join together on one of Lauren’s tunes, in an essentially impromptu (and impressive) collaboration. And it must be said that the wondrous Brittany Rees of Rec Room Recording Studio mixed a beautiful sound for all of the tunes and the conversation – a different set of logistics and microphones and instruments for this session, and I’m very grateful.

* After this podcast was recorded, we learned of the passing of the mother of our recording engineer, Brittany Rees, following a sudden and fast-moving illness. Mary Bunte was an art educator, artist, and quilter. She will be remembered by countless students and friends and colleagues. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Brittany and her family.
