ART TAP episode 082 - Tippecanus Rex!

THINK TIPPECANOE. THINK WEIRD.

ART TAP is announcing a community-wide story project called “Tippecanus Rex,” celebrating the (un)natural history of Tippecanoe County, Indiana through mythical beasts, imagined histories and fake statistics.  Creative works of writers, performers, and musicians will be selected for “major awards” and broadcast on the ART TAP podcast!

The project was meant to be whimsical and imaginative, emphasizing the contributions and new creative works of artists, writers and performers in the (loosely ascribed) Tippecanoe County area.

So, how do you go about it?
THINK TIPPECANOE. THINK WEIRD.  Famous, infamous, and unknown, who or what do you imagine once walked, crawled, or stalked our area?  Have you ever heard of the Wabash River Dolphin?  The Wea Plains Pygmy Bison?  The Celery Bog-Man?  The notorious Lafayette madame, Ginger Wigglemann?  What else can you imagine?
Pick an aspect of the community you don’t understand and “explain” it.

Once you’ve got an idea, then, choose your format.  Anything that will “play” audibly will work for the podcast, such as songs that can be performed.  Or stories, poems, and plays that can be read aloud or performed in front of a microphone by one individual or a small group.  Work together and “slow jam” a story.  And if you’re shy of the microphone I’ll even read your story for you.
For the purposes of timing, I’m going to ask that all submissions last no more than 10 minutes, performed or read in actual time.

Think.  Imagine.  Create.  Start writing and composing today.
When you’re ready to submit, email me your entry as a Word doc, a PDF, an mp3 file, etc.

Entries will be due Tuesday, September 3rd, 2019!  That’s the day after Labor Day.

Entrants may submit up to 3 submissions of literary, performing, or musical art.
I’ll just need your full name (I’ll publicize you by a pen name if you prefer, but I’ll need your real name for communicating), your contact information like email address and phone number, and a brief description of what you’re sending me.

Literary or Written submissions should be submitted as Word documents or PDF files and should be limited to about 10 pages in length or 10 minutes (timed) narration.  Don’t worry if that seems short, you can tell a hell of a tale in 10 good minutes!

Sound Performance or Musical submissions should be submitted as .mp3 files and should be no more than 10 minutes in length.

Submissions should be emailed to crannog@comcast.net.  If file sizes are large, please post them to an online file-sharing program (like Dropbox) and invite me to share the file.

Entries and any and all questions should be directed to me, Craig Martin, at crannog@comcast.net.  I’ll be happy to hear from you.

Let’s. Get. Weird.  I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
